England’s ruthless display in seeing off defending champions New Zealand last Saturday was more than worthy of a place in the final. Eddie Jones’ men ran out 19-7 winners on a day when they looked like worthy World Cup winners.
South Africa did not have it as easy in their 19-16 win over Wales last Sunday, but the most important thing is that they got the job done. If they can beat England on Sunday, they will win their third Rugby World Cup while preventing the English from collecting their second.
England and South Africa were two of the top three betting favorites heading into this tournament, so there are no surprises here.
While New Zealand was the best bet to win the World Cup prior to their dismantling by England, it always looked likely that the Red Rose or the Springboks would make the final.
Well, here they are.
With the semifinals now consigned to history, it’s time to look towards the big final on Saturday. To make things even more exciting, I have some of the best 2019 Rugby World Cup bets and odds below that’ll have both diehards and neutrals counting down the hours to kickoff.
All odds come courtesy of Betway and are accurate at the time of writing but subject to change.
As you can see, England enters the final game of the 2019 Rugby World Cup as the betting favorites, at odds of -188. Remember that this market is a bet on England to win the game within regulation time.
The same applies to a bet on South Africa to win the World Cup at odds of +200.
If both teams are level after 80 minutes plus added time, bets will be settled as a draw at +1800.
If you think the chances of both teams playing to a draw in a Rugby World Cup final are slim, it is probably a good time to bring up the 2003 final against Australia. That day, Jonny Wilkinson nailed a 100-minute drop goal over to win the game in extra time.
Could we be in for a similar end to this game?
Well, England and South Africa met each other in the final four years later and that game finished 15-6 and without a single try.
I sincerely doubt that we will not see at least one try scored in this game, but if you disagree, you can get odds of +1400 on no try in the 2019 Rugby World Cup Final.
In contrast, if you see this game being a try fest, odds of +3300 on 8+ tries being scored in the game might take your fancy.
So, before I look at some of the top 2019 Rugby World Cup bets, I think it is a good idea to take a quick recap on how England and South Africa made it this far.
Can England Win the 2019 Rugby World Cup?
England is in the final of the Rugby World Cup for the fourth time in the history of the competition.
Along with the 2003 triumph and the loss against South Africa in the 2007 final, England were also runners up in 1991, losing to Australia by 12-6 in Twickenham, London.
Amazingly, England now has a chance to seek revenge over South Africa, the team that beat them in the final 12 years earlier. In 2003, they avenged their loss 12 years earlier to Australia at the same stage.
Fate, perhaps?
Sure, some might say that there is an element of fate involved, but I would prefer to concentrate on how ruthless and efficient this team has been in the tournament so far.
The English got their campaign started with a 35-3 win over Tonga in Pool C, before registering further wins over the United States (45-7) and Argentina (39-10).
While a final pool tie against France was scheduled for October 12, it was called off due to dangerous weather conditions caused by Typhoon Hagibis. The game was declared a 0-0 draw, with England progressing as winners of Pool C.
In the quarter-finals, England thrashed former foes Australia by 40-16 to set up a sizzling semi-final tie against the defending champions, New Zealand. It was not the game that they would have wanted, especially since the All Blacks hammered Ireland 46-14 in their quarter-final appearance.
They were just so much better than New Zealand, in every single department.
If it hadn’t been for a lost lineout, Steve Hansen’s men would have likely failed to score a single point in that game, too. How crazy is that? They had never conceded a World Cup try as early as the one Manu Tuilagi scored on Saturday, either.
While this New Zealand team are known for their mastering of the basics, they just seemed unable to play to their strengths against England. The crunching hits of Sam Underhill, Maro Itoje, and Tom Curry would have something to do with that.
George Ford’s boot was metronomic and the whole team just had one of those games when everything went perfectly.
England beat New Zealand by being the better team.
Why South Africa Could Win the Rugby World Cup
South Africa will be aiming to make it three Rugby World Cup wins in three finals when they line out against England on Saturday, November 2.
I remember discussing how the Springboks were one of the best Rugby World Cup bets heading into the tournament, given how they always seem to turn up when it matters.
If South Africa is to win a third Rugby World Cup, they will have to break a record in the process. That record is that no team has ever won the Webb Ellis Trophy and lost a game in the pool stages.
South Africa, of course, lost their opening Pool B match against New Zealand by 23 points to 13. They quickly got over that by beating Namibia 57-3 before registering further wins over Italy (49-3) and Canada (66-7).
In the quarterfinals against the hosts, South Africa had a chance to avenge their infamous loss to Japan in 2015. Despite some believing that Japan could shock the ‘Boks again, South Africa rolled to a convincing 26-3 victory to set up a semi-final with Wales.
South Africa had to dig deep to dispatch of Six Nations Champions Wales in Yokohama.
It was one of the tightest games of the tournament, but one that the Springboks came out of with a place in the final of the Rugby World Cup with.
A 57th minute try by Damian de Allende sent fans into overdrive but Josh Adams’ score in the 67th made things very tense. In the end, the boot of the highly reliable Handre Pollard was enough to see South Africa home.
We learned that this team has what it takes to squeeze the life out of a game if required. Coach Rassie Erasmus’ tactics are usually spot on and this proved to be the case in the second semifinal of the weekend.
Although this England team are the favorites to win the World Cup, South Africa are no pushovers and will be heading to the International Stadium in Yokohama with just one thing on their minds.
The Best 2019 Rugby World Cup Final Bets
It’s time to get down to some of the best Rugby World Cup final bets out there.
Fans of England and South Africa will be praying that their respective teams have what it takes to beat the other, but there will be plenty of neutrals watching this game with a keen eye.
Here are a few of the top bets I have come across ahead of the 2019 Rugby World Cup final.
I covered the outright betting odds for the winner of Japan 2019, but there are also a few interesting handicap markets available to fans.
The standard handicap is 4.5 points, with odds of -125 on England winning by -4.5 points looking like a solid bet. South Africa’s odds of -112 with +4.5 points are decent, but I am not sure that they are worth it when you can get +200 on them to win outright.
The bookmakers clearly see this game as one that will go right down to the wire. It is a final, so anything can happen, after all.
But, I think England are a better team and will win this game by more than 5 points. Therefore, backing them to beat South Africa with a -4.5 point handicap makes sense to me.
World Cup Final Try Scorer Bets
This England team is notorious for getting out of the traps and scoring early tries. Therefore, I would be looking at any bets concerning Eddie Jones’ men scoring the first try.
You can get odds of -138 on the English crossing the whitewash first, or +130 on South Africa scoring the first try.
If you believe that no tries will be scored at all, you can get odds of +1400 on this happening.
Betting on both teams to score a try will get you odds of -175, while betting “No” on both teams touching down will land you odds of +125.
If you believe the first try will be converted, you can get odds of -300 or +225 if you don’t think it will be.
A more extensive list of first try scorer bets is available by heading over to the Betway sportsbook. So, anyone betting on the first try scorer in the 2019 World Cup final should take a look if they don’t see a name above that catches their eye.
Rugby World Cup Betting
For me, Jonny May is an excellent bet at +900 to cross first.
You can also get odds of +275 on May scoring anytime in the final.
Successful Drop Goal
This is a little gem of a bet for anyone who knows England rugby.
There is no doubt that, if the piece fits, Owen Farrell or George Ford will not be tempted to replicate that famous Johnny Wilkinson drop goal of 2003. If England is in the ascendency and running away with the game, you might even see more than one in this game.
Oh, and let’s not forget that the most drop goals ever scored in a game of rugby (5) occurred in a test between England and South Africa in the 1999 Rugby World Cup.
That day, Jannie De Beer hammered them over against England en route to a semi-final appearance.
For those of you that like stats, coincidences, and, erm, fate, have a think about this bet. At +300 it could be worth a punt (pun unintended).
Final Thoughts
The 2019 Rugby World Cup final between England and South Africa is set to be a classic.
Whether you are betting on England lifting the cup – or South Africa winning their third Webb Ellis in three decades – there will be plenty of opportunities to find the right wager for you.
Head on over to the top recommended rugby betting sites and check out some of the markets available. Just like the little gem I found in the successful dropgoal market, there will be others that will surely catch your eye.
I am truly looking forward to seeing what team has it in them to get their hands on the Webb Ellis Trophy on Saturday, November 2. It should be a great game and that’s all us rugby fans can ask for.
So, good luck with your bets and let’s hope for a great game of ruggers!
Bayern Munich are looking to become world champions for the fourth time in their history when they take on Mexican outfit Tigres in the Club World Cup final at Education City Stadium in Qatar on Thursday.
Hansi Flick’s men qualified for the tournament after lifting the Champions League back in August and swept aside Al Ahly of Egypt in the semi-final thanks to Robert Lewandowski’s brace.
Bayern Munich vs Tigres Latest Odds
The last seven Club World Cup finals have all been won by European sides and bet365 make Bayern just 2/9 (1.22) to continue that trend in Al Rayyan on Thursday.
Editors' Picks
Tigres are the first North American team to ever reach the final, having done so by beating Ulsan Hyundai and Palmeiras so far in the tournament, but are out at 12/1 (13.0) to win inside 90 minutes.
Only four of the 16 finals in this competition have ever been level after 90 minutes and bet365 go 5/1 (6.0) that this clash goes into extra time and potentially penalties.

Bayern Munich vs Tigres Team News
Flick played a strong team against Al Ahly and should put out a similar line-up here, although the likes of Leroy Sane and Niklas Sule will be pushing to start after coming off the bench in the semi-final. Jerome Boateng, meanwhile, has left the squad for personal reasons.
Tigres manager Ricardo Ferretti may go for a defensive XI against a dangerous Bayern team, having played a 4-4-1-1 in the win over Palmeiras.
Bayern Munich vs Tigres Preview
Bayern were shown little resistance in their semi-final win over Al Ahly, recording almost 70 per cent possession and amassing an impressive 24 shots on their way to a very comfortable 2-0 victory.
Another professional performance is set to be on the agenda for Flick, who will be aware of the confidence in Tigres' camp after their upset of Palmeiras in the semis to create history – with Ferretti's men holding their Brazilian opponents to just a single shot on target in the process.
Football World Cup Betting Odds
The Liga MX side will likely aim for another robust defensive display here and having kept six clean sheets in their last 10 games in all competitions, should be able to make life difficult for the European champions .
Bayern Munich vs Tigres Tips and Predictions
It is difficult to see anything other than the favourites winning but Tigres have enough to keep it tight and the price of 21/20 (2.05) on Bayern winning in a match that features under 3.5 match goals looks a strong pick for the Club World Cup final.
